Dear David
By just removing the brilliance pot, you may find that your Pristines may be too bright/harsh, as the Solens and its original X-over design is inappropriate for the best/optimal sound.
The Solens are harsh sounding and the sand cast are as nasty as they come. The original Pristines only has 7.5 ohms across (I can't remember) and the caps 16uF (my memory is failing me). The X-over frequency is set too high. Then SL made the adjustment to 48uF and 6 ohms, which sets the X-over point at 500-550Hz - which sounds to me about right.
You have to do the lot, or the brilliance pot mod, may not be up to scratch.
Write me an email if you want technical support.
You owe me two lunches now.
Cheers
