If an amp can reproduce a accurate 10kc square wave?... It just means that the amp has a flat band width from DC [O hz] to 100 khz ! With excellent rise times....
It all comes down to whether:
You want a Marshal Style Guitar amp that produces Over Tones of it's own
through Ringing and frequency distortion just to make another part of the
system, Or the recording sound better? ..Or.. If you want an amp that is willing to reproduce exactly what is presented at it's input... Only bigger at the output ! An exact replica of the recorded signal...
Some amps have Hi-Band Ringing to help out slow rise time cone / box speakers.....
Sound Lab ESL Speakers can actually reproduce Square Waves !And they are extreamly musical ,because they are highly accurate electrical to air reproducers.
Wolcott amps sound musical and also look great on the bench !..Accurate test spec. does not necessarily
mean Clinical Sound !...Where as, a very poor bench tests generally dictate poor sound quality also !
The most significant spec. about the Halcro's amps
was: The all time Low Back Ground Noise Threshold....Meaning Deeper Sound Stage And Generous Space to Perceive Additional Musical Nuance.
