Tom,

My setup is similar to yours. I have A3's driven by Wolcotts and a Wadia27. Earlier this year I was using MA1's. I just cranked up the volume and I measured peaks of 95dB, way too load for me.
I listen between 65 and 85dB. From memory the MA1's could easily get up to 90dB.

Your bias setting problem seems a little odd. You are describing very large adjustment changes over a period of time. I find that the panels settle down relativly quickly and it is easy to get a fealing of the threashhold point between crackling and no crackling. You goal at the moment as I understand it is to get them to play loader.

You said.
“when I set the bias pots after having the speakers charging for 5 hours that process went according to the book. Clear crackling was noticeable and I backed the setting down until it wasn't noticeable. After a day and a half of charging the panels I can't hear any crackling even with the bias pot turned up to max”

When you initialy set the bias how far were the bias pots turned after the 5 hour setting period?
Were the bias pots set identically for both speakers?
Did you turn both of the bias pots to max without hearing crackling?

Roy
