The Wolcott amplifier has a unique feedback system, while the Atma-Sphere amps allow the user to select no feedback or -8 dB. The membranes of electrostatic speakers have vibration modes, and the way the amplifier damps or fails to damp them could have a noticeable effect on the sound. The damping mechanism works differently than it does for cone woofers, because it is the voltage created in opposition to the membrane motion that provides the damping force, not the current from the voice coil. This may be why many users on this board like the way Wolcott amplifiers work with Sound Labs.
