"A" / "B" is the classic product comparison test of the audio industry for years....
It used to take the form ...Of putting two contending speakers, out of sight, behind an audio transparent curtain and then by using an switch to send speaker level audio to each speaker separately ....first playing :Speaker "A"...And then instantly switching to speaker "B" for an immediate hearing comparison ...Not depending on the mind's ear memory to decide on the better of the two speakers...And of coarse this test was performed in front of as many trained ears that were willing to listen...and then recording the comment's and preferences...
Now days, The testing procedure seems to have completely disappeared and it's all pretty much ....just opinion. And a whole new language of sonic properties description as emerged...
And, It's all complicated by..The subtle sonic properties of the switch ,curtain, wire to the switch, just the presence of the other speaker in the room affecting the speaker being tested...Phew...nothing is simple anymore...
I have noticed that "A"/"B" testing is being performed comparing two phono cartridges in separate tone arms on the same turntable, also studio microphones...When audio products get so good it is gets harder to distinguish sonic signature, without instant comparison...
"A"/"B" testing of two 'duplex outlets' would be to..... Set up a relay between the two outlet units and listen to the instant sonic change between the two .....
This term "burn in" could be a problem here?...And that could be solved by a pre- "burn in"....Before the testing.procedure...instant comparison...
I think "A" / "B" Testing of the AUDIO REVIEWERS would be interesting...Give two guys the same room, with the same audio setup and music... And then compare the writings of both to see if their impressions came out anywhere near the same....?
The reason I said two guys....is because it usually is guys....I haven't read one Women's review yet...? And women are supposed to have better ears...?
