We are always thinking in : Cone / Box.... Terms....And it doesn't apply to ESL Speakers !
With ESL panels the Larger Active Area you have moving air the deeper more powerful bass response you will experience !
So when you add on a ESL Sub Panel Woofer You still let the U-1 operate at FULL RANGE !
So the two panels couple together to produce deeper more powerful bass together...
One Point Sound Origin is one of the most wonderful qualities that ESL Panel speakers have !..
Breaking them up into Different Frequency sections...is a mistake...You don't want the violin octave runs to travel across 6' feet of ESL panel...
Unlike Cone Woofers that are heavy and slow and have a very distorted top end frequency range...
ESL panel woofers have FULL RANGE CAPABILITIES...My Sound Lab ESL Sub Bass Panel extends from 28 hz to above audibility ..Far better than any Cone / Box / Tweeter Combination...And I use it as my Center Channel speaker for Dolby 6.1 And together with my Outer Sound Lab Speakers Left & Right , I have a wall of bass...
Some of the differences between ESL Subs Woofer Panels and Full Range Panels may be the Distance in between Diaphragm & Stators & Higher Bias Voltages...For Bigger Air-Motion...!
