Hey TERRY,
on my post, when i mentioned "digital room analysis", i meant it as in getting a "picture", so to speak, both of "room frequency-spectrum" and "room time-domain" (of course, by means of a microphone!).
my understanding is that the best way of doing so, is to take more than one reading with the mike located at different locations in the main listening/seating area (as an example, take four readings with the mike spaced 12" apart on the sofa, with the mike placed at ear level) and then averaging the results....that should give oneself a close estimation of speaker/room interaction >>>>>>>> AT THE MAIN LISTENING / SEATING AREA ONLY!.
then, as i posted, move the speakers, sofa, rugs, etc, etc, just enough untill achieving satisfying results, and, if unable to reach an acceptable compromise, then, and only then, i would consider using a digital "room-correction system" >>>>>> AS A LAST RESORT!....
as you posted: "sometimes you are stuck with poor room acoustics"...and then, what are we to do if no amount of quilts, rugs and different seating arrangements can correct the problem???
i certainly agree with that the less electronics in the signal path to correct room/speakers interaction, the better it is; however, sometimes one must compromise to achieve "audio nirvana"...!!
