Dear Bob

I like your thoughts on biamping. I am finishing my other pair of 8 KT88 per side amp, and will be trying them out soon. Some what overkill to have 450 watts of power per speaker, but I am sure it would warm up the house with 32 glowing KT88s.

Using a bigger R value in the X-over makes the load easier for tube amps. They are in pararrel with the amps and do get hot if the wattage rating is under-designed. I am sure SL did not choose 200 watt for nothing - most manufacturers would go for the minimum rating (my guess, don't take it out on me if you disagree).

I don't understand about the bit you wrote about not having to adjust for mid-range if we bi-amp.

Biamping has been on my agenda for a while. I would probably have a volume adjustment for the bass amp to dial in the tonal balance from LP to LP. Bass can be too much (even for a Pristine) in a concrete floor and brick wall environment. I often wondered how to tame the bass of bigger paneled SL if I do acquire one in the future. The dispersion angle of the big buggers worry me somewhat.

Cheers
