Silly of me to have ignored the fact that you are asking about cross-compatibility between
the Pristine and M1 backplates. I still think you're OK with that, but the factory will probably
tell you the real answer so you can proceed with more confidence. BTW, if I were trying to
build an "uber-U1" I would not start with hollow steel tubing, as the factory has done. I
would try first to obtain solid rods of similar rigidity. Solid steel rods would be prohibitively
heavy and difficult to manage, but maybe one can find solid rods made of less dense
material, e.g., carbon fiber or PVC. It would take quite a lot of work....
