Two other major differences between the UB1 and the U1: (1) The UB1 is flat; it is not a curved panel. This is probably because dispersion is not a problem for extreme low frequencies. (2) The rectangular panels within the UB1 are oriented in the horizontal plane, not the vertical plane as used in all other SL spkrs, AND the rectangles are all of the same size. (See photos of the Cadmium Chef system.) I don't know why the rectangles are oriented differently, but they can be all of the same size as long as their resonance lies above the frequency range likely ever to be handled by the UB1. Oddly, they seem to be a little smaller in area than are the largest ones in my M1.
