Outdoors, or in an outdoor-like environment, there will be essentially no effect of the rear radiation of the spkr. It will all be lost, or nearly lost. I have always felt that "controlled" reflection of the back wave into the listening environment has a lot to do with the wonderful-ness of ESL sound, the sense of ambience and depth, etc. If it were not so, we would all be dampening our rooms to the extent of an anechoic chamber. As far as I know, ESLs are underwhelming in such an environment. However, for a box spkr, it's another story.
