Thanks for your kind comments Matt, it is always good to hear words of wisdom from a fellow "slogger"....
If there was one thing i learned from my unfortunate experience was that, if i have to "fiddle" around with the bias control, i will do it as seldom as necessary and for periods of no longer than 2 minutes, preferably even less than that!!!....File it under "bias control PARANOIA induced by a lack of owner's knowledge and general carelessness" !!!.....DUH!
As you posted, if an owner of Sound Labs notices that the speakers' playback levels suddenly became noticeably lower than usual, without changing the preamp's volume control, then it might be time to investigate raising the bias control slightly, until the crackling starts again, then lowering the bias until the crackling disappears, just as it is printed in the owner's manual, BUT, BY ALL MEANS, DO NOT RAISE THE BIAS CONTROL FULLY AND KEEP IT THAT WAY ANY LONGER THAN 2 MINUTES !!!!!...Sorry for the need to emphasize with such a strong warning, but, from my experience, that should have also been printed in the owner's manual.
In my previous post, i should have been even more careful with my suggestion/assessment of " do not raise the bias control fully any longer than 8 minutes", for which i humbly apologize to everyone: why take the chance of damaging your Sound Lab speakers by being so careless with the bias control ??!!!!
