Firstly, please understand that SLOG has many participants who are very passionate about their speakers. Those who contribute here are more often than not, people who want to get the last once of performance out of their SLS. You are right to call "us" people who "finick" with their speakers all the time. And some of "us" do. It is like owning a Ferrari, and getting the last bit out of a performance car, is a constant and fun hobby.
But the majority of SLO do not post at SLOG, and are happily using their SLS as they are. Their Ferraris still perform fantastically, but not "race ready" so to speak. But remember they are still fantastic.
Like you, my last pair of speakers before SL was a pair of 2200 Acoustat. They have very thick stockings and are less perceptable to outside environment. But they are no Ferrari, and definitely an inferior ELS compared to SL. If you think that SL has problems with humidity, Quads would not play at all in high humidity. The bias control on the SL is one of the best thing to have happened in ESL. It takes away the problem of the humidity. It allows SL to be at optimise charge - if you care to set the bias in relation to the humidity.

NO. There are not. They are not in the same league.
Please send your panels for repair. Get some curtains, and do close your window when the fog comes.
When you get your repaired M3 back, be mindful and understand the bias setting on your SL. I am sure you will get many enjoyable years from your SL after this initial set-back.
I am a very happy owner of SL. I have owned them since 1994, and will probably continue to use them for the rest of my life. They are so far ahead of all the other speakers, that there is actually no choice. They are the best. Any other speaker you choose from now would be a long cliff fall in quality.
