Steven,

I've followed the discourse stimulated by your posts, and thank you for raising important points. Thanks to all for keeping the discussion civilized!

You may want to hold on to your InnerSound amp, depending on your selection of speaker. The tweaks I suggested in my earlier post do not require modification of the amp, and raise its performance several notches. I don't have direct home experience with five-figure solid-state power amps, but I think effective case damping of the InnerSound amp probably puts it into their league. It is certainly better than the Edge gear I've heard at shows, for example. Also, IMHO, you should not regret selling your McIntosh equipment. The InnerSound out of the box is far superior to any McIntosh.

The InnerSound should work well with any speaker with low impedance. With my Magnepan MG-20s, it has prodigous bass output and extension, limited by the speaker cable: Magnan Signature is a distinct improvement over Silver Audio Silver Symphony 48 in the deep bass, but perhaps not in the timbre accuracy. In other words, the amp is better than any speaker cable I've had the chance to try.

Good luck, and let me know if you want more detail on my Magnepan experiences.

-Al
