Al,

I have been following this tread thinking that I was unable to help but my memory just swung into action. I hope this info helps.

About 4 years ago I owned a pair of FPB650 Mono’s. Now, if my memory serves me correctly there was a connection that needed removing or linking in the input stage to the amp if the preamp was a tube design. I think the distributor told me that the function was to protect the amp from any DC that may come from the preamp. This may be a clue to the failure of the amp and the topology of the Krell design. Maybe this link is in the later design, who knows, but it is worth talking to Krell about

Your suggestion of some sort of efficiency test is a very good idea. It worries me that a few people have made their way to SLOG complaining of low efficiency. If a few of us can take simple readings that can be produced with a test CD and a Sound Meter and if the readings correlate reasonably well then the data and method devised would at least give the user somewhere to start from.
