CV....I think you are right on coarse....And this is what it is going to take to Direct Drive a Full-Range Sound Lab ESL to full power....

I'm also looking at an update of the Cascode-Push Pull style of drive used in the Acoustat Servo-Static Direct Drive Amplifier....There are several low cost tubes that can handle 7000 Volts [ 6JE6 ] And with a power supply increase , of around 9KV as you have suggested...This could be a very exciting practical amplifier to build ....to do the job.....

The Capacitance of a Full-Range ESL panel is approximate .004 ufd...With your experience with ESL direct drive ..What do you think would be the Current Requirements of a 9Kv plate power supply for an amplifier like this...??? And have you ever considered a modern Chopper style supply??? I know from your pictures, you like big transformers and a lot of glass...But I'm thinking :Size,Weight,Cost....
