"think a stepped up DSD stream"... Yoy, CV ....I not familiar with that term, please describe what a DSD is.....?
So sorry Chris,if I have confused you with the guy who has built Direct Drive Amplifiers to drive Martin Logan panels...He has presented extensive pictures on the web of his builds and he tends to use parts like GM100 and smaller..
You are really in for an Ear-Candy treat....Sound Lab ESL speakers have extremely low distortion with a Wide Full-Range sound ,with none of the phasing problems of all other 2 way systems....If you can imaging the Sony or Grado head phone's sound on a grand scale with room filling presence...This may give you some idea how pleasurable Sound Lab speakers can be....No Box ...All the bad stuff is removed...Pure perfect sound....
The problems come from the ESL Interface Crossover ...Sukcs up gobs of power and presents unrealistic loads to mere-mortal amplifiers...And that is why a Direct Drive ESL amplifier must be built.....
The present set up wastes 300 watts of amplifier power to stabiles a toroide ...Only to get an actual 2 watts of audio out in to the room....pitiful...The ESL Panels are actually quite efficient full-range... It the Interface that wastes all the power...We really need a better way....
I think you are on course again ....I just checked the current rating of the Acoustate Servo Direct Drive ESL amplifier and it looks like it is capable of almost 1 Amp of 5 Kv power.. And I'm also thinking that the natural internal resistance of the Direct Drive Amp would be enough to limit it slew rate....
