As you turn the bias up from the very minimum setting the sound will start of as a slow tic tic tic randomly from all over the panel area. If you turn up the bias more the sound will get more intense, as you say “crrr”, do not turn up the bias any more at this point. You should now reduce the bias very slowly until the tic tic noises stop completely. It is best to turn the bias knob down a fraction of a turn at a time and wait a few minutes for the panel to discharge, you will hear the noises reducing as you are waiting. Eventually the tic tic noises will stop. You have now correctly adjusted the bias. It is wise to check for the tic tic crackle sounds from time to time as the panels settle into your environment. You may need to adjust the bias again.

You say
“A slow rhythm background tick tick is normal and does not mean that the bias is already too high”

The panel should be completely silent after you have adjusted the bias. I am aware that your panels are quite old but in very good cosmetic condition. It may be that there is dust inside that is causing the slow background rhythm sound. The dust could have dislodged and deposited its self in a critical area when the panels were packed up and delivered to you.
Rather than say what has been discussed before do a search on “dust” in these archives. Lots of advise has been posted on the tecniques of removing the dust.

You say
“Understood they take time to charge completely, how do I know when they are at that point ?(3 full days only so far)”

There will probably be different opinions on the charging time but I think that 3 days is plenty long enough. It is my opinion that SL panels charge blisteringly fast. The membrane coating is exceptionally conductive unlike many other brands that have a very high resistance coating and need longer to charge.
