Every part of the ESL diaphragm is a Supper-Tweeter...There is: No Cone,No Mass,No Ports, No heavy-mass ...To Slow it Down.!... Only a transparent thin diaphragm, Just a little heaver than AIR, being moved by a by electron pressure that never touches the diaphragm.. Almost like levitation...The same force that lifts your hair up when combed fast in the very dry winter....
Bass wave are Big...A Full 100 Cycle wave may be as long as 160 feet.!...
If you are going to move 160 feet of air.Fast & all at once....You will need to evenly push a very large square area of a Big Air Package....So there needs to be a large coherent motion diaphragm moving all in the same direction at the same time !
Cone / Box speakers use Compression ...Cupping a lot of small area air..to be compress in to a box...Then to be shot out,.. to try to make a big resulting bass wave...Small Cannon..As opposed to an ESL Moving Wall of AIR....
The way I liked cone / box speakers best, was when I used them in great numbers.... A giant wall of sound...[ Michael Jackson, Shay Stadium..200, 15" woofers, 30 Crowns amps][1975]...Big & good..
In those huge numbers, Cone/Box speakers begin to sound and act like Panel Speakers.....
Focus...If you have a coherent large area Wall of Sound...All active...From All full Range Diaphragms...at some point you have an active moving section of air...surrounded by air not activated....
Big Bass = Big Speaker Area....Or...Big Compression & Big Compression Distortion....Typical 80%
ESL Panel:...Larger means lower ....Frequencies produced....To push a Bigger Longer Bass Waves
