In my opinion it is nearly worthless to discuss speaker cables without taking note of the
amplifier with which you are driving the speakers. For example, the Goertz cables are
among my all-time favorites for cost-effective wires to drive the SL speakers with my Atma-
sphere tube OTL amplifiers, but Goertz cables could in some cases cause instability in
certain solid-state amps that might cause them to shut down completely or to sound pretty
awful. (The Goertz cables are deliberately designed to have a relatively high capacitance
and very low inductance; this gives them a very low "characteristic impedance" which is a
good thing, but their capacitative loading can be a bad thing, when the amp, especially an
ss amp, employs lots of NFB in its output stage.) So, if you want to start a discussion, tell us
what amplifier you have in mind.
