With first order X-over at about 550Hz, it is an ideal point to either tilt the treble or bass.
I have incorporated separate volume controls of the two pairs of amps at my phono stage (I do not have a preamp in the chain). I could now easily increase the volume of the bass or reduce it, and also to increase or reduce the volume of the highs.
This feature is fantastic for adjusting for correct balance for every individual recording. About 30% of my record collection need some form of "equalisation help." They all performed much better with the help of some attenuation of the bass or highs (but mostly bass as SL can be bass heavy).
This unintended benefit is more useful than all the other intended benefit. Now no record is too bass heavy or too bright and forward. I gave up the equalizer 20 yers ago for the sake of higher purity, but this set-up that I have is almost like having your cake and eating it too.
I wonder how many SLO bi-amped their speakers this way.
Cheers
