To spikes or not to spikes : tricks to position A-3 ?

This request for experienced SL owners. I actually keep my A-3 on my hard floor without any spike or original wheels. What says your experience in position them?
Heard that spiking is not a solid choice sometimes.
Would appreciate some tricks on this subject.
