Thanks Art for your placement tips.
I fired up the A-1's for the first time last night. The adjustment of DC bias was a bit tricky since I could only set the pot barely over no-bias point in order to keep them from small popping and crackling. According to Bret at the factory this morning, it will take few days of idle operation for the speakers to settle down. Once I had the crackling under control, I hooked up a pair of Bryston 7BSTs (wish I had kept the Krell 700Cx...) and played some Telarc label CDs... Even with less than optimal placement and the speakers not quite loosened up, I got such a tasty and ample bass I was grinning ear to ear till 1:30 in the morning. I never had such a bass from Maggies or B&W's. Perfectly sealed Klipshorns are the closest bass performers in the league of A-1's, IMO.
My plan is to use a pair of bridged Citation II tube amps (120W) for the A-1's after getting them to work properly using SS amps.
Thanks again.
