Acoustic absorption panels behind Soundlab ?

Because of space limitation, my Soundlab is only 3 feet from the backwall. Is it a good idea to place some sound absoption panels behind the back. Does it dampen the sound ? or, I am thinking about putting a very thin curtain onto the backwall. or, it is OK to leave it blank ? which one is better ?
