Fact is that one of the most notable results of inserting the Whippey resistor into my cross-over
is that the positive benefits are distinctly audible at ALL volume levels and especially at low
volume (or sound pressure) levels, so this eliminates many of your listed reservations about Roy's
(and my and many others') observations. Also, may I gently remind you that although Dr. West IS
worthy of our admiration, respect, and gratitude, the discovery of the phenomenon first
mentioned by Matt Rogers and maximally achieved by use of the Whippey resistor is really
outside the realm of any real-world speaker-maker. It's not surprising that Dr. West did not
discover the merits of super high-wattage resistors in the hi-pass filter, because there is no
logical reason for him to have worried about the power handling capacity of the resistors he
already uses. The discovery was evidently the result of an empirical investigation by Matt, and he
was kind enough to share it with members of this forum. So take it or leave it. We have yet to
hear from anyone who has tried out Matt's idea and failed to agree with his finding. If you read
the archives you will note that I myself was highly skeptical at first, so I certainly don't blame you
for your own doubts. But please desist from arguing against the possibility that Matt had a good
idea, unless or until you try it yourself. That's what I finally had to do.
