Part of Ohm's laws tells us there will always be current when there is voltage....
And it is the *change* that produces the instant current...
And The ESL Panel is a big capacitor,so once it has been moved it doesn't want to move again with out a current draw...
Acoustat in the 60's produced a Direct Output Tube Amp..Still well loved by many.!.
Acoustat used [4] TV Horizontal Output tubes in bridge configuration ,with a 5000 DC volt Supply...To drive...[2-4] Acoustat Panels...[ still in use and much liked today ]
The Acoustate amp Voltage Specs fall short of the Required Drive for Sound Lab Full Range Panels...By about 2/3's ..... Sound Lab [13-16kv]
Other problems The Acoustat Amp had : OP-Amp Chip Front-End ,Hybrid Solid State To Tube And Very High Resistances Resistors that cause THERMAL DRIFT.
To many [even 40 years later] The Acoustat Servo-Static Amp provided a Transparent Clear Sweet Sound that was very easy to love...Even with it's stability Problems...
But even Acoustat Dropped the Servo-Static Amp ...When they Invented the ESL Interface X-Over..Producing almost the same sound,but you could use almost any Power Amp ...WITH ENOUGH POWER to drive the Acoustat Panels...
I have found some tubes that can swing very High Voltages and are not much larger than 6L6GTB And not too expensive.....or hard to find..
I think what I'm going to end up with is: An amplifier that is 80% like the Wolcott ,Front-end & drive ,but with a 16KV Output..[Not Hi-Current~Low Ohm]..With a built in ESL X-Over....
