Regarding the wild goose chase and if you really wanted a reprint I would have sent you one.....You just wanted someone to pick on just as in this case, but I'll make it simple for you so you don't have to buy a college textbook.....Annealing/break-in can be done using slightly elevated temperatures, very low temperatures or by conducting an electrical current.....Changes in the material manifest themselves as lower impedance which is easily measured if you have a very good multimeter....I imagine the meter Dr. Hummel uses is worth probably 100K minimum, but you can look it up as he is in the Materials Science Dept at the University of Florida - Gainesville.....You want more detail then read the book......
Now if you want to learn about connectors you can go to the IEEE Holm conference papers or look up Ragnar Holm on your browser.....He wrote the book on connectors and the IEEE conference is named after him....
