If we all kept an open mind; make real contributions to improve and enhance SoundLAB speakers (i.e. finding a way to achieve a flatter and smother tonal balance): improve the load the SLs present and generally just solve real issues, we would have ourselves much to be proud about belonging to a special group of people who own SL and despite everything else would never buy another pair of speakers. I log onto SLOG every week and have always loved the sense of camaraderie, spirited and friendly exchange but this episode leaves a bitter taste to all concerned.
Albert, rightly or wrongly, made an offer to the world at large (please understand the global reach of the internet) and if you really buy what he has to sell then just do it - if not he is forcing anyone to. There really is no need to descend to levels of outright accusations, academic or otherwise. No one in this group or anywhere else have all the answers to electrical/electronic interface and we can only learn if we actively participate by conducting our own research. On the question of whether Albert is “going into the outlet business?” – so what if he is? Last time I checked America is where freedom (of choice) is a treasured right that everyone will defend. He did offer it on Audiogon and if it was construed as “the impression of being done as a community service, little or no profit made… mistaken in thinking so, it's likely others are, too” then it is one’s own opinion and as much right as that individual has of thinking as such. But then are we reciprocating this privilege to Albert? Do we really know the actual cost or even his intention?
Some of the pomposity of the replies and posts truly reflect just how much the individual values his own opinion rather than adopting an open mind and making a constructive criticism.
Frankly SLOG has been, up till now, a great place for SL owners to exchange ideas and with this last exchange, there has been more harm done than good. Fine go ahead and disagree for it is only through intelligent argument and debate that new ideas are generated but is there really a need to resort to innuendo and insults?
