Dear Brian
Perhaps one word dry in insufficient description. I have asked Dave to listen for himself to see if he likes them.
The JL2 has about 18dB of global feedback. I experimented with the feedback and found that the lesser the feedback the better the ambient detail, but the frequency response suffers. The OPT of the CAT needs feedback to perform. Not a great OPT IMO even though it is huge - you should check it out on an oscilloscope - the bass rolls of very abruptly even with feedback. With no feedback, fat bass and nothing above 12k.
At 18dB feedback the high frequency response is fantastic, but dry in the sense that ambient info dries up. It has a whitish dry sound very similar to ARC amps. I have not heard the Walcott and the Atmaspheres.
Obviously global feedback opinion varies greatly between all of us, but I am in the school of zero negative feedback whenever possible.
Cheers
