Wall Surface Question

Hi SLOGers,

Ok, I've got the speakers turned around facing the normal direction - maybe it was a break-in issue, either with the speakers or my hearing, but they're facing the normal direction now.

Initially my room had hard surfaces on both ends, but I've installed some curtains on either end (speaker end and listening end) and I can open and close them, all the way or partially. The curtains are pretty thick and when they are both closed I get a bit of the "anechoic chamber" feel in the room.

What are your experiences? Which end do you prefer to be the live (curtain open) end and which do you prefer to be the dead (curtain closed) end - the speaker end or the listening end? Or do you prefer some other combination/attribute?

My limited testing so far says it might be preferrable to have the speaker end be the live end and the listening end be the dead end. This seems to result in better imaging - but I'm sure everyone will have an opinion to share :)

So far it's sounding pretty good in terms of tonal balance and imaging width; I'm still looking for better imaging depth. In addition to curtain adjustments I'm tweaking the speaker locations (which are pretty much at the "Cardas" points); further location tweaking may be part of the answer.

Thanks for any live end/dead end thoughts.

Thanks
