I can get both channels to "crackle" and the pot setting that achieves "crackle" is the same for both speakers, around 12:00-1:00. If I set both pots to the same level, just below crackle, the left speaker is much louder than the right. In order to get left-right balance, the bias pot on the left sepaker must be set at 8:00 while the right speaker is at 12:00.

Yes, the definitive test is to switch backplates which I will get to this weekend.
