In my desperation to try anything I toed the speakers out rather than in. It worked. After some trial and error, my speakers are now toed out a full 10"! The sound has really opened up and the images now 'breath' and energize the room. The surprising thing is that image clarity, image weight, image separation, soundstage width, and soundstage depth, have not suffered from this.
My system still suffers from EMI but I'll be able to take care of that.
