All the preamplifier needs to be able to do is to supply enough signal voltage output to drive the
amplifier to its full output. This is almost never a problem. If you mate a high-ish output
impedance tube preamp to a low-ish input impedance transistor amp, it could rarely be a factor
affecting the overall apparent efficiency of the system. But with modern gear, even that kind of
mis-mating is usually tolerated.
