If you purchased new panels with the new ultra-long-life insulation material, and if you do not have high-voltage bias supplies on your backplates, then it's possible that your bias supply doesn't adequately charge up the panels, in which case they won't sound right. Sound Lab offered high-voltage bias supplies as an option for customers in very humid climates (I puchased them for my speakers here in New Orleans), but since switching over to the new ultra-long-life insulation material in January 2002, Sound Lab has been shipping new speakers with an improved high-voltage bias supply as standard equipment.
