Thank you Duke for your detailed response.
Yes , I am the gentleman in England. I had intended to swap the cloth over to a more sonically transparent but also more decoratively appealing one that my wife would find acceptable. I thought that I would be getting the same linen that my original panels had, sadly this was not the case. The offering now is pretty grim. That said, it is an open weave. If I removed the cloth it would certainly prove the point. For Sound Lab to offer cloth options that can contribute to a panel response that previously rolled off from 30Hz to one that now rolls off from 55Hz does not make much sense.
My panels were ordered at the very end of July and different insulation materials were never offered to me. I assumed that I would be getting the most up to date panel available at the time. The panels were not supplied with replacement bias supplies. My previous panels biased correctly at about ¼ turn, the new panels bias at about ½ turn. I will ask Roger if I have the most up to date materials fitted. It is concerning that Roger never discussed this with me when I placed my order. We all pine for the very last ounce of performance available.
After installation the panels were biased up last Thursday and after realising that something was seriously wrong I took some RTA curves on Sunday, these were forwarded to Roger. The panels were tested with the same backplate to ensure identical testing conditions. The speakers had 2½ days with the bias on prior to measuring. I have now put my old panels back into the frames as I cannot be without music for too long. It would be an easy matter to plug the new panels back into the back plates though without the need to fit the panel into the frame.
Again Duke, thank you for your response, I look forward to solutions being found.
