I second what liptrader has posted, as i also own a pair of A-1's powered by a 300-watts Innersound electrostatic amplifier, and have nothing but praise for the combo, as it has worked sinergistically flawlessly for over 5 years now.
I can't understand how your Innersound amp, which is considerably more powerful than mine, could have possibly driven your U-1's into such deleterious condition, considering that i have measured my amp driving the A-1's onto measured SPL peaks of 105/107 dBs in my listening room; The amp did get quite hot but never, ever shut down, whilst the speakers took all of that in stride, which to me indicated how well-built and "forgiving" both the amp and the speakers are.
I would dare to say that, if the problem was really caused by driving the power amp into such severe clipping that it actually "fried" internal components in your Sound Lab U-1's, then you must have been playing your U-1's at absurdly loud levels for extended periods of time in a humongous listening room ! Otherwise, i would look for the problem elsewhere, as in very low bias levels, a power surge, malfunctioning panels, etc, etc.
