Terry, in my case, the converted backplates include the original crossovers (filters, as Soundlab calls them). I asked Roger West about this, and for his opinion about using electronic crossovers or running fullrange amplification to both low and high frequency panels, and this is what he said:

Thank you for your note. My suggestion is to simply send the full-range signal to both inputs from your amplifiers and let the internal filters do the work. If you choose to use an external electronic crossover, I'd recommend the following attenuation rates: -12dB/oct. for the low-frequency filter and -6dB/oct. for the high-frequency filter. The optimum crossover frequency is 500Hz. This seems high to many, but we are working with a low-mass membrane, not a heavy and massive cone system. Therefore, we have the freedom to choose the frequency that sounds best. Personally, I feel that you will find that using the internal filters will sound better than an external device. Having separate amplifiers permits critically balancing the lows and highs to fit the particular characteristics of your sound room.
