Roy----
Sorry to hear, so near and yet so far.
The holes I accidentaly burned in the mylar were circular and as a result there was no arcing. Actually I could have left the holes uncovered without any problem but being anal retentive I just had to cover them.:)
I hate to admit it but I melted the spandex in the same area also, had to replace it on both speakers. As you indicated in your post I used a dual speed gun, way to hot.
As I posted before, Roger sent me some adhesive backed material to cover the holes. The tricky part was fitting the material in between the stator wires without having it stick to them. I used a hemostat and thin curved wire to help position the pieces in place.
I fear your going to have to replace the mylar, once the arcing starts I don't think there is any other way.
A friend of mine w/ U1's just had the same thing happen, arcing near the top corner. He's waiting on new cores. BTW, his are about 2-3 yrs.old.
I truly hope I'm wrong and Roger comes up with a fix.
Having had to replace a couple sets of cores due to this type of problem I sure can relate to your disappointment and aggravation. But hang in there, there just isn't anything else like them. So lifelike at times its spooky.
Good Luck,
John
