Prior to getting my A3’s I purchased some Quad 989’s, I only kept them for a couple of months, it was no contest. The first difference that is apparent is clarity and the second major difference is the bass. The 989’s in my room were bass heavy whereas the A3’s can be equalised to your room using their adjustment feature. Another difference that is not discussed much is image height, I find my A3’s get soundstage height just right.
