Here is a picture of the hole John. You can see that the stator tube has a crevice/crack along it. I was sure that it extended up into the area covered by the foam rubber spacer strip. I could see the sparks jumping about the crack and especially where it disappears into where the foam rubber is. Roger has given me instructions on using the Silicone caulk with the self adhesive Mylar. I thought that I would try out an idea of my own first. I cut a section of PTFE sleeve as shown in the drawing, snapped it around the stator tube and gently wiggled the pointed end up between the stator tube and the foam rubber. The pointed end sticks out of the top of the foam strip now. Worked a treat, the very definite and loud discharges stopped immediately. I can just hear the odd fant crackle discharge from the hole area but the stator tube is quiet. I will still put the tape on though when it arrives and apply the silicone caulk .
