Great idea to sleeve the stator. That's a beaut of a hole, must be about 40mm across. It's not torn so it shouldn't enlarge. Roger told me holes are no big deal but a tear is.
You might have to cover the hole with multiple pieces as its a bitch to get the tape in between the stators especially a piece that large.
Where are you going to apply the silicone?
You could probably also apply some silicone on the stator and then slide the plastic sleeve over the stator/silicone for extra piece of mind.
