As for a definition of "overdamping", I refer you to the classic article by Norman Crowhurst and to the many other articles that treat the subject of damping rationally. As for the rest of your response.... Sheesh! I don't know where to begin. An ESL, like any other transducer, has an impedance that varies with frequency, does it not? All I am saying is that the impedance of the full-range ESL Sound Lab products is high-ish at frequencies below 500Hz and does not present a problem for OTLs, even ones with high output impedances. If you are saying that amplifiers with miniscule output Zs deliver inherently better (i.e., more accurate) bass response than amps with higher output Zs, Regardless of the Speaker Load Impedance (I can hit the caps key, too), then I disagree and refer you back to Crowhurst et al, because there is no way I can convey to you what my own 30 years of listening tells me. (Also, if you really believe that, then why aren't you touting some solid-state behemoth?) Meantime, I don't disagree at all that the impedance of the Sound Labs spkrs does go down precipitously at and around the x-over point. This has nothing to do with my original statement.
