they sent me an email with a diagram explaing how to take the panel out of the wood frame. it is a scary process because you need to drill the plugs that cover the screws. they are located on the sides and top of the speaker. you have to do this VERY SLOW and carefully. once you take the panel out, you can see the grill is stapled in place all around the edges. I used a small knife to cut around the staples. you'd be surprised how strong that grill is actually. I ended up using my hands to pull the grill off the staples. but there are a lot of staples so it will take time. i didn't do the whole thing, just the bottom part of the panel and it gave me access to see that area of the panel that was giving me problems.
