The M1 bass response is so clean and musical that I cannot imagine a subwoofer of any reasonable size that could complement it. BTW, my M1s came with a single "foot" in front, at the center of the arc of the panel, with two additional feet symmetrically placed at the rear, under the power supply module. (I don't know whether this is typical of all M1s.) I noticed that the panel was kind of wobbly from side-to-side, so I removed (unscrewed) the front/center foot and installed cushioned nylon furniture feet at either end of the bottom of the frame. (A thick rubber bushing and then a nylon foot pad at one end and a nail at the other end; one can buy them in any good hardware store in the US.) So, now my spkrs have 4 feet: two in the front at either end of the arc of the panel and two at the rear. Granted I have given up the advantage of a 3-point mounting system, but the good news is that the spkrs sit much more solidly on the floor and will not rock from side to side. This made a noticeable and immediate improvement in the solidity and definition of the bass response. I don't know whether the A1 also uses only 3 feet, but I do know that the U1 has a 4-foot system and also delivers superior bass response. The M1 frame is so flexible that the difference between a 3-point system and the 4-point one is moot in terms of sitting squarely on the floor surface, so the 4-point one wins, because it removes a degree of motional freedom.
