I found the hi damping setting on the Wolcotts too dry for my room. I moved the speakers around and still could not get the depth I heard at Dukes. By depth I mean the ability of the system to reproduce cellos and bass which provide the illusion of the concert hall. I switched the damping switch to low and the sound radically improved. It is absolutely 3 dimensional and has depth out the wazoo. Sympony Hall sounds like a hall. (I measured the FR with my rat shack meter and the adjusted FR no longer has the midbass suck out. BTW, I could not duplicate this performance by setting the bass adjustments on the speaker backplanes. ) According to the discussion of damping, I know why. The rising output impedence of the SL under 500 hz demanding a higher OI on the Wolcott for "critical damping." No wonder no SS amp I tried sounded like the Wolcotts.
So I guess it is better to use the Low setting on the Wolcott damping switch and adjust it carefully for best bass reponse into the rising impedence of the SLs? YMMV.
