Thanks for confirming my suspicions about electrostatic speaker damping requirements.
If your speaker cables rest on the floor, I'd be curious about your perception of the cable lifter tweak. Support the cables about half an inch (1 cm) off the floor with ceramic tile quarter-rounds or bull-nose pieces.
Doing this with my Magneplanar system opened up the bass image depth in just the way you described. Assuming it works for you, it is easy and fun to baffle your friends by removing the tile pieces and replacing them: I did this with the person who designed and made my speaker cables, and the expression on his face was priceless. These ceramic tile pieces sell for $0.69 to 0.89 each in home improvement stores, and you can return them for a refund if you don't get a benefit from them.
