I have a domain spatial-statistics.com which hits the top of google, despite some other domains having possible claims to that rank. A minor part of the ranking is to have the name reflect the topic, and hyphens help on that. Moreover, it is easier to remember a straightforward name and you do not have to worry about unexpected parsings (one web site was to see "who represents" various actors -- they registered and use whorepresents.com which has a very different meaning if you parse it after the fifth letter).
I can obtain a good price on these, and I wouldn't mind buying the domain for 10 years. The question is who should own the domain?
