People understand how much heat a furnace puts out, or how much cool air they need in the summertime, don't they? We're talking BTU/hr here - the same thing. Since you mentioned numbers, I thought it would be useful to describe a method to quantify the heat output, rather than rely on subjective terms.
On the other hand, feeling the heat radiating from a pair of 800 watt class A Tube Research amps from 15 feet away is enough to tell you they run hot, but that's infrared energy, not sensible (as measured by an ordinary thermometer) energy, nor is it an accurate way of estimating the heat output.
