What amplifier are you using? If it's a tube amp, especially an OTL with a high-ish output Z, you may discover that what is already "good" will get even better with the backplate mod. I installed the modification in my M1s before even auditioning them without the modification, because I knew from prior experience with my U2s that my amps (Atma-spheres run without any NFB to reduce output Z) could benefit from an increase in spkr input impedance. I am ecstatic about the combination I have now. But if you really have "no problem" then don't do it. There is no point to adding parts in the signal path, if you don't need them.
