Sorry, but you are incorrect on both counts.

Distortion is not a cause for audio circuits to generate heat. Perhaps your Cary amps were faulty, and the excessive distortion had the same root cause as the excessive heat, but very cool-running amps can sound awful.

Sound energy, which is a very small fraction of the energy consumed by the amplifiers, is all turned into heat. Only the sound which escapes the listening room is converted to heat outside the room, and that fraction of a fraction is so small as to be not worth worrying about.
